We helped a good customer of ours DWL Windows with one of our skylights to go alongside the aluminium bifold doors they were supplying into the extension in this family home in Bearsted, Kent.
Both the bi-fold doors and one of our lantern skylights were chosen to be supplied and installed using high performance aluminium systems, simply because the material is better able to withstand larger panes of glass, therefore letting the homeowners enjoy the largest influx of natural light possible. We thoroughly discussed with them their intentions, and brightening up the back of the home in any way possible was of top priority.
For this reason, they decided that using the Atlas aluminium lantern roof system (considered by most to be the leading one in its field in terms of strength and thermal performance) was perfect for making the best use of any sunlight capable of hitting its angles. The combination of sleek sightlines and large glass surface area meant that a brighter atmosphere would always be a certainty, which is a big plus compared to other thicker frame skylights. The blue self cleaning glass also helped to improve the grey British sky!
On the case study page on their website, DWL comment, "We knew that the Atlas system skylight or “roof lantern” would easily compliment the Kent home both practically and stylistically, simply because our supplier Express Skylights get them made bespoke every time. Family-run by industry experts, they helped make this installation just as stress-free as our team also allowed it to be."
As well as enhancing the amount of light able to enter from above, the family wanted a set of high performance bi-folding doors, introducing views of the garden and countryside as well as lots of natural light for the family to enjoy. Fitted with a set of internal blinds integrated between each door pane’s double glazing, it would always remain easy for the family to adjust the amount of light entry with just the flick of a switch. Both products were installed using a deep black RAL colour tone, seamlessly tying in with the existing aesthetic of the property naturally.
